He has been the solo founder of four mission-driven startups, including this media company, which, once it was making enough, he hired someone smarter than him to run. Scott then started Pono Home, which has, by the end of 2021, performed efficiency retrofits on more than 13,000 homes and small businesses, reducing carbon pollution by more than 17M pounds annually, saving more than 350M gallons of water per year, and saving customers more than $6 million a year on their utilities. Remeredzai Joseph Kuhudzai has been fascinated with batteries since he was in primary school. As part of his high school physics class he had to choose an elective course. He picked the renewable energy course and he has been hooked ever since. At university he continued to explore materials with applications in the energy space and ending up doing a PhD involving the study of radiation damage in high-temperature gas-cooled nuclear reactors. Maarten Vinkhuyzen is a grumpy old man. The best thing he did with his life was raising two kids. Maarten only finished primary school, but when you don’t go to school, you have lots of time to read. He switched from accounting to software development and ended his career as a system integrator and architect. Maarten’s 2007 boss got two electric Lotus Elise cars to show policymakers the future direction of energy and transportation. Maarten drives a Renault Zoe and is putting his money where his mouth is as well with shares in Tesla. He intends to keep them until he can trade them for a Tesla car.
Paul Fosse has been a software engineer for over 30 years, first developing EDI software, then developing data warehouse systems. Along the way, he has also had the chance to help start a software consulting firm and do portfolio management. In 2010, Paul took an interest in electric cars because gas was getting expensive. In 2015, he started reading CleanTechnica and took an interest in solar, mainly because it was a threat to his oil and gas investments, which he dropped for a focus on Tesla [TSLA] and other stocks.
